Term 2

We have a busy term coming up. We finish off our unit on Gold in which we learned how its discovery changed the development of early Australia. We will go on our long awaited camp – how exciting.

We will start our new unit called ‘Our Place in Space’. We hope to discover lots about our planet and how it fits into the Solar System.

What do you know about our planet or about the Solar System?

I am the first to comment on this…cool.
I know that Earth is the 3rd planet from the Sun!

  2. Zoeisthebest at beingthebest in 5/6 WM says:

Earth is the only planet in our solar system suitable to have human life

  3. Lara H, 5/6Ma says:

    Dear Mrs Watkins,

The Moon orbits the Earth and the Earth orbits the Sun (it’s pretty awkward that we don’t feel the Earth moving right at this moment!), Mercury is next to the Sun,
then Venus then Earth! I’m pretty sure after Earth it’s Mars…
I’m not sure with the rest but the last 4 are Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Pluto is a known as a Dwarf Planet. Pluto must be cold, as it is the furthest (Dwarf) planet from the Sun! Earth is so far known as the only livable planet.

    From Lara H,

    Second Student to Comment 🙂
I know the Sun is a star.

  5. Jade Jade n says:

I know that Mars was named after the Roman God Mars (Greek : Ares)
Neptune is named after Neptune (Greek Poseidon)
Venus is named after Roman Godess Venus (Greek:Aphrodite )
Saturn is named after Roman God Saturn (Greek : Zeus)

  6. Kimmyisthebest at beingthebest in 5/6WM says:

Did you know that for life form from other planets we are aliens? Because no one actually knows if there is another planet able to have life inside its atmosphere. In fact no one has ever been on the dark side of the moon before so there could possibly be life form there as well. Did you know that Mars and all the other planets were named after Roman gods and goddesses except for Earth? I’ve got an idea about a project that we could do, we could do a space project just like we did the gold project (Just an idea although I would like to do it).

  7. Joanna D says:

The Sun is a star and it is way way way larger than other planets in our Solar System.

  8. Anna E says:

I know that when stars are blue they are hot and when they are red they are cold.
    🙂 😀

  9. Henry says:

Why does the Earth move without us knowing?

  10. Casey L. says:

I know that Earth is the third planet away from the sun.

  11. Nathan T says:

ok I’m really looking forward to learning about space 🙂

  12. Kevin N says:

I am looking forward to learnng more about space, and I know that the Milky Way is made out of a million stars.

  13. Joanna D says:

I know that the planets rotate around the Sun and that some planets take longer than others to rotatate fully around the Sun, though I wonder why the Sun doesn’t rotate.

  14. Kimmy says:

Did you know that if the Sun was hollow it could fit a hundred Earths inside.

  15. trinity n says:

I bet that Mercury is so hot that it will reach 250 degrees!

    • Mrs Watkins says:

I wonder how we could find this out? (Without having to go to Mercury, that would be way to hot!)

  16. Tuan L says:

The order of the planets from the sun are: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
Pluto doesn’t count because it is no longer considered a planet.

  17. Alisha L. says:

In cartoons people go on an adventures in space. Some people got sucked into the black hole. That makes me wonder what happens when you go into the black hole. And if the black holes really suck things in. Also, last year I was dressed as a black hole for book week. I can’t wait what else we’re going to learn about space.

  18. Alisha L. says:

Is it true that Saturn’s ring is actually asteroids?

  19. Alisha L. says:

What is the difference between comets, asteroids, and meteorite?

  20. Vincent 5/6wm says:

I know that the sun is the biggest star in the solar system.

  21. Alisha L. says:

When I was in year one I found out when the stars are very old they explode.

  22. Henry says:

    Why does the comet move.

  23. Kevin N says:

I know that Neptune is the coldest planet in our Solar System.

  24. Kimmy says:

Did you know when the sun explodes its called a Super Nova?

  25. Alisha L. says:

I also know that the sun is one of the 20 billion stars.

  26. Alisha L. says:

    What is a worm hole?

  27. Alisha.L says:

Next what are we going to learn about?

    • Mrs Watkins says:

Anyone want to make a guess? I think it may have something to do with either countries or with health because the Commonwealth Games are coming up. What do others think?

  28. Alisha L. says:

Today when I went to the excursion it was pretty fun. My favourite activity was the rocks and minerals.
